AIKIDO, to the beginner, appears to centre around the ability to avoid an attack, blend with that attacker and then, using his/her energy, neutralise that attack by using a series of locks, pins and throws.

As a student becomes more experienced they notice that there is far more to the art than merely physical technique.

Upon closer inspection aikido goes much deeper than this. The founder, Professor Morihei Ueshiba, placed great emphasis on the moral and spiritual aspects of aikido, training to develop a student's mind and body and helping to promote harmony and inner peace.

AI-KI-DO can be translated as "The Way of the Harmonious Spirit".

The style being taught in the dojo here is a more therapeutic style of traditional aikido based on meditative and therapeutic movements with a strong link to the martial history of the art and its derivatives that I have named 'MUKYOKAN', a place without boundaries.

Beginners are always welcome in the Aikido classes as it is our firm belief that new students get great benefit from partnering an experienced student during practice. Students are encouraged to progress at their own pace and are never pressured into progression beyond the limits that they are comfortable with.
